Because of blogging …

January 20, 2007 at 11:21 pm 40 comments

bloggingHere’s another tag from my new blog-friend Pining of Buckinghamshire, GB.

Five things that happened to me because of blogging:

  1. I always carry a small notebook in my purse and I also have notebooks lying around in every nook of the house so I could jot down ideas to post in my blog.  I would be riding the bus and I’d see a nice quotation on a billboard and I’d pull out my notebook and quickly copy it.  I’d be listening to the news or watching a talk show and I’d hear something that might be blog material and I’d jot it down.
  2. I’ve always loved taking pictures of my family but since I’ve been blogging, I have been taking not just their pictures but pictures of fruits, flowers, trees, snow, etc.  Last summer, Ryan was the first one to say anything about my obsessive picture taking. Why do you have to take a picture of the pay phone?  Why do you have to take pictures of the murals?  Can’t you just go on the internet?
  3. My desk is in such a clutter.  I have piles of paper – drafts of possible posts; newspaper clippings – possible sources of future posts; my journals from last year – another source of possible posts; books that are waiting to be read.  On my shelf are also tapes and DVDs that I can’t put away because I haven’t watched them yet.  If only I could get a break from blogging, then I can un-clutter all that mess.
  4. I have been neglecting things that have to be done.  On New Year’s Day, I spent the day cleaning the oven and recording our home movies from over a year ago.  I used to be up to date in recording our tapes but blogging has taken so much of my time that our home videos didn’t make it to my in-laws in the Philippines in time for Christmas.  That’s usually my Christmas present for them.
  5. The best thing that happened to me because of blogging is meeting many blog-friends from around the world.  I have met people from different cultures.  I have met Filipinos who live in other countries and I have learned how they live there.  I have met Filipinos in the Philippines and I get updated on news and changes back home and I get to see a glimpse of what it looks like there now.  I have met mothers who share their experiences in raising their children and I also get to share mine.  And mothers who are also sometimes as clueless as I am with what to do with our children.  I have met expats like me who found home in a new country and are content where they are.  I have also met expats who miss home terribly and can’t wait to go back home.  But the most important thing I learned from meeting all these people is that no matter what country or culture we are from, we are so much alike – in the way we live, the way we raise our kids, the way we feel about our country or family.  And I may relate more to fellow Filipinos because we are of the same background but we could also be so much different from each other.  Though we are from the same country and culture, we could also have different views on almost anything.

I am tagging Haze, Rhodora, Sunshine, Belle, Shoshana.

I always have a small notebook in my bag too. It was mainly to write down witty/smart/weird conversation with my kids.

I agree with your #5… when I first started blogging, I never thought it will last me this long. but having met some nice blogger friends makes me want to blog more.

LOL about your son asking why you’re taking pictures of a payphone, murals, etc. 😀 For me, I sometimes use my cellphone camera so it’s not as obvious that i’m taking pictures of odd things like billboards or coffee mugs or what have you.

I like #5. I agree. It’s interesting to see how pinoys around the globe live, how we’re all pretty much the same yet we can also be so different.

#5 is so common to us all, perspectives change, views and thoughts maybe different on different subjects, but altogether we are all alike, looking forward for a better future for our children and of the next generation, to leave a legacy worth remembering..

Mmy-lei, yes #5 is the best. I get to meet many bloggers like you. 🙂 Hey, how come I can’t access your site ?

BW, yeah, I’ve heard of Blackberries too. Well, you know me, I’m old-fashioned. 🙂

Belle, I’m also glad to have met you. 🙂 At least I have company when it comes to cluttered desks.

Wil, sometimes I already hide from them my taking of pictures. I wait until they’re asleep or before they’re up in the morning. 🙂

Vic, yeah that’s true. As Wil said, we are pretty much alike and yet so different.

Verns, I can’t quite remember picture of my son’s shoes. Maybe you’re talking about my shoes? But I know what you mean. You should see his face when he says those things to me. 🙂

Zeroimpact, I think it changed many peoples lives.

OMG! As I go around, I see myself in every post. I think that’s the universal truth. Kung anong nangyayari sa atin because of blogging. Sa totoo lang.

Totoo ka about tkaing photos. I’ve always grabbed from flickr members pero lately sabi ko, kakahiya naman I always link to them. Why not have my own. The worst is, pag nakakita ako ng may camera ngayon di naman mukhang journalist, may phobia ako…another blogger on the loose! 🙂

I think Ellie’s starting to wonder why I take lots of pictures, too. Kaya I can relate. 😀

Parang nakikita ko na ang future natin. Our loved ones would start to hide whenever they would see us holding our camera. “Kukuhanan na naman tayo para ilagay sa blooooggg!! Ruunnn!!” ROFL 😀

I think # 5 sums up the reason why we enjoy blogging. Its cool to go places & meet nice people from every part of the world but we didn’t know that by blogging pala we can also do that at you don’t have to board a plane or ride a banca hehehe. Just go to your pc & voila.

Ipanema, dito naman, I don’t see anybody with cameras. So nako-conscious tuloy ako. 🙂

Thank you Haze, I love visiting your site just to see how life is in beautiful France and also to exchange ideas with raising our children.

That’s funny, Prab. 🙂

Sesame, it’s just that blogging is so distracting. I guess as long as we know how to prioritize things, it won’t be that bad at all.

That’s true, KD. Same reason I enjoy watching The Amazing Race. I get to see the world, and experience the different cultures from the comforts of my own home. 🙂

Phia, I attended CEU (Centro Escolar University) for one year. We had to wear this navy blue leotards with a wrap-around mini skirt. One year lang naman iyon. After that sa PSBA. White shirts and navy blue shorts. I hated wearing shorts kasi. 🙂

Sunshine, thank you for doing the meme/tag. 🙂

Bing, nice to hear that you like my fruit pictures. Thanks.

    Sidney, the blogging curse? 🙂

funny how our lives changed because of blogging.

We’ve interacted with many people thru blogs. We’ve shared our stories with people whom we do not personal know.

We often act as if our next move is related to our next post. ha ha.

Sexy mom, it’s really great meeting friends, even just on the internet. 🙂

Kyels, even without a cell phone, I find it easier to compose my thoughts on paper first than typing directly on the computer. 🙂

    Cai, same here. 🙂

You keep on blogging too, Iskoo. You got us worried when you said goodbye in your old blog. 🙂

Lazarus, LOL on your last sentence.
