I’ve been called back to the office again.  I will be there for three weeks.  So I’ve really been busy (again).  And we’ve had a busy weekend as well and I am tired.  Since it’s spring break and the kids are just at home playing Gameboy and NDS, I thought I’d ask my nine-year old son to write this entry since he was very happy when I told him that I would like to post the picture that he drew here.  Please feel free to address your comments to him.

So here’s Ryland:

The Mouse and the Motorcycle

This is the picture I drew for our Literature Circles.  This is a mouse riding a motorcycle.  Because when I read the book, it was my favourite picture I saw.  The title of the book is The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary and illustrated by Louis Darling.

The Mouse and the Motorcycle

This is the picture on the book where I copied it from.

The Mouse and the Motorcycle

Beginning:

Keith is a boy and he didn’t know that he was getting watched by a mouse as he entered room 215.  Keith saw the mousehole and he poked his finger into the mousehole but he did not feel anything.  Keith took out his suitcase and took out some toy cars.

Middle:

Ralph (the mouse) had Keith’s motorcycle.  Then the motorcycle’s paint got chipped off and one of the handles was bent.  Then Ralph and the motorcyle fell into the paper waste basket.  While that Ralph was worried about the motorcycle.  Then the paper waste basket fell and Ralph and the motorcycyle got out of it.  Ralph met Keith and they became friends.  Keith made a deal so Ralph could ride the motorcycle at night but Ralph had to put the motorcycle away in the morning.  Keith was a nice friend to Ralph so he gave Ralph some food.   Ralph was riding the motorcycle then the vacume vacuum cleaner was trying to suck up Ralph and the motorcyle then they got sucked up and they went into the laundry room.

Ending:

Ralph told his relatives about his adventure.  His mother allowed him to go to the first floor by himself because he is growing up and he is a responsible mouse.   Ralph said goodbye to Keith.  Keith agreed to leave the motorcycle to Ralph.

My feelings:

I felt happy when Keith gave food to Ralph’s family.

I was scared when the vacuum cleaner was dragging Ralph.

I felt good about the deal that Ralph and Keith made about the motorcycle.

Parts of the story I like:

I liked when Keith poked his finger into the mousehole.

I like when Ralph and the motorcycle got out of the paper waste basket.

I liked when Ralph was spying on Keith.

    Hi Ryland 🙂

i like your drawing better because you put colors into it so its more attractive.

And your summary of the story is pretty good. I wonder who taught Ralph to ride a motorcycle 🙂

The illustration is sharp Ryland and with enough practice, it surely gonna improve a whole lot. And by the way, it was a skillful way of storytelling you got there…Maybe one day, you gonna have yourself write a book like the story of Ralph and Keith…

Thank you everyone for all your comments to Ryland.

Oh boy, is he enjoying this. Now, he’s always looking forward to new comments. I’ve been introducing every commenter to him, like kyels and zeroimpact are both from Malaysia and they go to university together, Sidney is English speaking but he lives in the Philippines, etc. Please pardon me if I got any of that wrong. He’s actually typing all the comments by himself, although I check them first before he clicks on submit. Sorry if it’s only pining whom he called tita. I was actually beside him when he started typing his reply to her. Oh, she’s Filipino? he asked. Yes, I said, and also a mom like me. 🙂 Of course, this is without disrespect to the other titos and titas. 🙂

He’s been drawing more pictures and wants me to put them up here. We’ll see. Now there’s another one hogging the computer in this house with only one PC and I’m down to visiting only one to two blogs a day. I’ll catch up next time.

    Thanks again guys.

I am still introducing every commenter to him and he is just surprised at how many Filipinos come here at this blog. 🙂

I also showed him how to make the smiley faces, you know with the colon and right parenthesis and he is just fascinated at how it comes out all yellow and circle after he clicks on submit. Oh, you should see that big smile on his face. 🙂

wow! Nice one Ryland. I like your drawing of the mouse, its better than the one in the book because of the color you added and he definitely looks like the guy in the “American Chopper” shown in Discovery channel 🙂 . I hope you will be a great artist and writer someday. Goodluck in your studies.

Ako na lang daw ang sumagot sa comment mo, sabi ni Ryland. Thank you daw. I explained to him that Aya is working already and they’re just the same age. He can’t quite comprehend why.

Toe, I explained to him what adopt means and he hugged me tight and he said he didn’t want to be adopted. I’ll miss you mommy, he said. 🙂 And then I had to also explain why you would want to adopt him. Well, because I talk about you and your brothers in my blog and I also post your pictures. What did you tell them? Oh something you said that’s funny. Which pictures did you show them? Well, your new pictures and there’s one where you were wearing diapers on new years’ eve. Oh mommy, you have to tell me. Ayan, nabuking tuloy ako. 🙂
